ImageIf Moral Relativism leads to chaos and Moral Absolutism to tyranny, what's left?

In conversation with the president of a local university he claimed that ninety percent of his students are moral relativists. Moral Relativism, which is practically the state religion of collegiate America, asserts that there is no such thing as supreme moral standards; rather, each society's morality is relative to its own cultural and historical influences. According to this view, there is no behavior which could be universally wrong. The moral relativist might personally believe a certain behavior to be wrong, but cannot say that the same would apply for others.

Rabbi Shmon ben Yechoi says in the Zohar, that the verse in our Torah portion (Genesis 7,11) which reads, “In the sixth hundred year of Noah’s life…were broken up all the fountains of the great deep” alludes to the fact that in the sixth hundred year of the sixth millennium (corresponding to 1839) the gates of sublime wisdom will open, and the wellsprings of worldly wisdom will surge forth. And the world will become Metaken [fixed] to enable entry into the seventh millennium. Akin to a person who is prepares during the afternoon of the sixth day [Friday], to enable entry into the Sabbath.

During our conversation the concept of biblical stories came up, “Do you believe that Noah really existed and that there was a flood?” I replied affirmatively. “Then you are a fundamentalist!” he exclaimed in contempt. Similarly, someone recently asked me whether I believed that G-d created the world in six days, again I answered that I did. “If it becomes known that you believe in the literal meaning of such primitive stories people will not take you seriously,” he replied.
