It was reported that the security services in the United States have asked Barack Obama to refrain from using his Blackberry device. They say that it is difficult to secure the communications that are sent from a handheld and that it could therefore be a security risk. Many of us are very concerned for the safety of the President-Elect, especially those of us who are members of a minority group and have been subjected to hatred from bigots and know how virulent and irrational that hatred can get. Nonetheless, it seems that Barack Obama has not yet decided to cede to this request of the security services and part with his Blackberry device. Recommend this article... |

In his latest column in The Forward and in other of his recent writings, David Klinghoffer has complained bitterly about the names and insults that have been hurled at him by what he terms as mostly “liberal Jews” because he dared to point out the influence Darwinism had on Hitler’s philosophy.
At the end of a post on Evolution News (www.evolutionnews.org), Klinghoffer asks, “Is there, in any case, something in the psychological profile of many a Darwin-partisan that leads such a person not simply to misunderstand or insult those who disagree with him but to purposefully misrepresent what we say?” Recommend this article... |

This week a horrific story of child abuse came to light in Jerusalem. Child abuse is always terrible and leaves psychological scars on its victims. Tragically in this case, one of the children involved has been severely and irreversibly physically injured as well. However, what makes this case even more disturbing, if such a thing were possible, is the fact that the person who inspired and advised this abuse called himself a rabbi. Elior Chen, together with some of his students, is suspected of beating two children aged three and four with hammers and knives and other instruments over many months. The three-year-old finally fell into a coma last month, and is not expected to recover. Recommend this article... |

Israel is yet again embroiled in a war that was completely predictable and arguably avoidable if proper foresight had been exercised and if the ill-fated disengagement from Gaza had not led to the inevitable installation of a Hamas regime. At present, however, Israelis and Americans stand by the principle that they do not talk with terrorist groups like Hamas.
Already there are those who dare to disagree with this policy. Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema said this week that, “Without engaging in dialogue with the Palestinians who govern Gaza, the peace process will have difficulties in moving ahead." As he points out, numerous influential voices in Israel are saying the same thing. Recommend this article... |

Mike Huckabee The 2008 United States Presidential race has become interesting recently especially in the Republican Party. Mike Huckabee a former Arkansas Governor and Baptist preacher has, in the space of a month, gone from being 18 points behind the frontrunner Rudy Giuliani to tie with him in national polls.
Now although politically I find Huckabee’s populist approach to economics troubling because, as Alan Greenspan points out in his latest book, anything other than fiscal responsibility leads to economic difficulties on the back end. Recommend this article... |
